Designed in Singapore is now showcased at Curiocity Gallery at the NAFA School of Fashion! Fashion mavens rejoyce! Our new location will be focusing more on lifestyle products and clothing, just a stone's throw (you don't even have to throw really hard) away from City Hall and the Singapore Art Museum.

After fabulous shopping at our retail space, you can even have lip smacking Nasi Lemak at Fong Seng nearby. Mmm.

Holiday greetings to all from Designed in Singapore!

Yes yes, I'm afraid in between the holiday partying and getting smashed, many exciting updates have been missed out! For all you shopaholics and eager beaver fashionistas, DIS has much in store for you in 2008!

First and foremost (not to mention most importantly) we've moved from our old hole in the wall boutique at 15A Mohamed Sultan Road to a more prominent location just down the street at

DIS took off our first runway appearance on FashionTV's Cruise , "F.Diamond". We Presented 3 of our distinctive designers Edmund Ooi, Jean Ling and Rayson Tan in this FashionTV World Tour. The event was greeted by lots of people from the fashion scene in Singapore, hence it was some exposures and experience for our designers.

This is to rectify certain claims that DIS staff who were mistreated. Hence as a staff of the company I wish to give everyone a piece of my mind.

The Management of Designed in Singapore have given sufficient welfare and treatment to their staff and salary were not once delayed. Whatever so reason for my late hours at work in the office are based on a personal self-learning experience so that I am able to learn more. I wasn’t exploited by the company neither threatened nor force to work.

The decision made for the dismissal of an employee were not base by a person but by the whole team. Dismissal at early point of time was not appropriate due to many factors to protect and safeguard interests out of goodwill of Designed in Singapore .

DESIGNED IN SINGAPORE PHASE II

Since our opening on 27 June 2007 till now, we have over 54 designers. But sad to say we had to dismiss one during the process. Anyway things are moving on strong with a few more capable management staffs and companies involve in the up coming projects. We are handling projects like Jewelry, SG Bear, Lighting project, Crazy Robot, Exhibitions, Iron Furniture, SFIC, Laptop cases, etc. We are lauching into Hong Kong and Japan soon in the next few months time.

We will have our official Launch when we hit 101 designers. More details coming up soon...

DIS coming to its reality! SINGAPORE'S FIRST "DESIGNED IN SINGAPORE" BOUTIQUE!

A very good evening to all,

Thank you for believing in the movement that DIS is pushing forward. Here, we're pleasantly surprised that many have shown support to us. For that, we are really appreciative that so many of us (Singapore's very own designers & artists) believe in selling "innovative ideas" in Singapore, to Singaporeans and to visitors of Singapore. To those who are still wondering what DIS is all about, where are we located and how are we moving on, here you go;

WHAT IS DESIGNED IN SINGAPORE? Who are the people behind this scene? What is the main factor that is continually stirring the passion of these people? Firstly, we are not from the government body. We are supported and funded by Spring Singapore & Temasek Polytechnic. We are existing now because a proposal was written slightly more than a year ago. This proposal went through many ammendments and have gone through various panals of judges. It was a tough process.

So what do we gain? We will only gain when designers like you join us for a longer run. Behind DIS Retail Space, there is a Multi-Disciplinary Design Firm (DIS Consultancy). This firm provides all sort of design services to companies and individuals. How can all these be achieved and how does the whole system works? We will share with the designers that join us, or, upon request. :)

We are a group of designers (frontline and behind the scene) who strongly believe in Singapore Art and Design. We believe that local design is somewhere we can start to create a bombastic synergy.

We will be moving into our new office (not fully furnished yet) by the end of this week. Do feel free to drop by, but do give us a call first. As for the three divisions in our entire retail space, these are the updates:

OURspace:
NAFA's students are placing their sofa set, coffee table, etc in our space. Many pieces of lighting are filling up the space by the end of this week as well.

OURlifestyle:
Accessories are coming in strong and specially designed island display cabinet are in the process of factory manufacturing.

OURwardrobe:
Flling up really fast.

Painting (general layers) of the floor, ceiling and walls are currently proceeding before we move in. We are also in the mid of the renovation, inviting graffiti artists to "dress" up our walls.

So, till then! Our first launch will be during the end of this month (MAY)!

Designed In Singapore's Boutique is already halfway done! The first launch/grand opening will be near the end of May.

Currently, we are still gathering local designers from various fields - apparel designers, product designers, graphics designers, etc. Some time ago, we posted a thread on a forum (FrontalLabs - under 'Kustoms'), and we have received substantial amount of replies from interested parties. Well-known professional designers, freelance designers and young student designers are all in it. Just a peek to reveal the soon and coming scene - skillful shoe customizers, accessories designers, lampshade customizers are all going to be involved in this boutique. The vibe is in the air!

The response is good because of the local support you guys gave.

Announcement to all our clients and designers of Designed In Singapore.

Recently, there were a number of replications of our company images created by others. Please do take note of these replicates as we foresee that such parties might tag on/along and thus, create unnecessary misunderstandings. Also, there are companies who claim to be registered as a Private Limited company (Pte. Ltd.) when they are not. This has been a rising problem nowadays. Members of DIS, please do take note of such incidents as Designed In Singapore will hold no claims for such mishaps caused by any of these third parties.

Designed In Singapore Pte. Ltd. is a registered company incorporated under the companies Act (Cap.50) of Singapore, on and from 30/03/2007 under the registered ROB: 200703496K and previously registered on July 2006 ROB: B070030127. As of date, the company has been established a year ago. Designed In Singapore was set up with the mind of initiating a design hub for to gather designers - to showcase, commercialize, interact and to create more oportunities in the the field of Arts and Design. Thus, a proposal was written. Support through funding were granted from organisations like Spring Singapore, Temasek Polytechnic and various manufacturers and retailers.

DIS Consultancy (also pronounced as "This Consultancy") is a registered company that operates as a multi-disciplinary design firm that will be focusing on providing design solutions for general public and companies. Such service provider are services such as product design, R&D, apparel till manufacturing stage, interior and exhibitions, corporate ID, graphic, and all other art & design services all under one roof. Due to the fact that there are accusations of DIS replicating ideas from others, we dare say such ideas and concepts are always being explored by designers and artistes of having a one stop design service centre but least have been done. Here we decided to take such interests and make it into reality that a design hub that will provide even more service then simply graphic and interior as stated above.

Designed In Singapore extends our appreciation and cheers to all those who support and believe in us.

The retail outlet of Designed In Singapore is separated into 3 divisions - namely,

OURspace
OURwardrobe
OURlifestyle

OURspace basically holds furniture pieces, lighting, sculptures, paintings, large-format photography, etc. Everything that you can find in a living space will be placed in this section.

OURwardrobe basically displays limited pieces of apparel like dresses, pants, t-shirts, bags, shoes, belts, caps, etc.

OURlifestyle is a place where you can find a wide range of lifestyle products - the things you use everyday. The range is from products like clocks to notebooks.

Latest Updates!

Designed In Singapore has finally grabbed a permanent location:
15A, Mohammed Sultan Road,
Singapore 238964

We are located just above Daybed Lounge (www.daybedlounge.com), on the second level. There is a high possibility of collaboration with the bar in designing furniture for their premises.

The grand opening and launch of Designed in Singapore will be in May 2007. The day of the actual opening will be updated again.

After searching for many places, Designed In Singapore has finally found and secured the very first "Designed In Singapore" retail outlet cum HQ. It will be located at Mohammed Sultan Road. :)

That area ceased pub licensing and in replacment, is giving them out to retail outlets, high-end F&B and coporate office. It will be a new area for the "UP" market.

Actual location will be announced somewhere near the opening, what we can tell you guys right now is that it's along the main road. ;)

D.I.S. is still looking out for good designers who are interested to be part of the team.

A : "Designed In Singapore" is set up by a group of local designers and artists who believe in commercializing and retail local designers' and artists’ Works.
